Description

A split-toe ballet flat for every day.

A low-cut ballet flat with a split toe, a rounded tip and a flat heel. A thin cord runs through the rolled top edge, gathers it softly and ties in a small knot where the split begins.

What you are getting

  • A split toe: the big toe has its own space
  • Both edges of the split bound and stitched
  • A thin cord through the top edge, tied in a small knot at the split
  • A caramel lining and a fine twisted stitch around the insole
  • A flat heel, under 1.2 inches
  • Two colors: Black, and Oxblood, a very dark wine brown
  • EU sizes 35 to 40 (US 4 to 9 on the maker's chart)

Perfect for straight jeans rolled at the ankle · a trench and a fine knit · wide trousers at the office · a midi skirt and a thin sock · a café table, legs crossed · the woman who never wears trends but wears this one.

Size & fit

US sizes, whole sizes only, on the maker's chart; the label inside reads the EU size: US 4 = EU 35 · 36 = US 5 · 37 = US 6 · 38 = US 7 · 39 = US 8 · 40 = US 9, with insole lengths from 8 7/8 in (35) to 9 7/8 in (40), a quarter inch per size. Measure your foot standing on a sheet of paper in the evening, heel to longest toe, use your larger foot, and pick an insole at least a quarter inch longer. Between two sizes, take the size up. One note about the split: if your second toe is longer than your big toe, a split toe can rub between them. Better to know before you order.

Materials & care

Upper

Split cowhide leather, with a fine grain and a soft sheen.

Inside

A caramel lining, with a fine twisted stitch around the insole.

Heel

Flat, under 1.2 inches.

Care

Wipe with a barely damp cloth, and give the leather a little cream from time to time. After a wet day, fill the toes with paper and let them dry away from a heater.

Black split-toe ballet flats with white ruffle socks under rolled straight jeans at a café table

From across the room, a ballet flat. Up close, a split toe.

A black ballet flat. A flat heel. Straight jeans rolled at the ankle. Nothing loud. Then she crosses her legs at the café, and the toe shows: split in two.

  • Reads as a ballet flat from a few steps away
  • The split shows when someone looks down
  • Made for the jeans you already own
  • In Black, or in Oxblood for fall

Turn it over. Look at the split.

The split is where a ballet flat like this works hardest. Every step bends it. So look closely: both edges bound, both edges stitched, a caramel lining underneath.

  • Both edges of the split bound and stitched
  • A thin cord gathers the top edge
  • One small knot, where the split begins
  • A fine twisted stitch around the insole

Keep the jeans. Change the flats.

No new wardrobe. The same straight jeans, the same trench, the same fine knit. Only the flats change, and suddenly the outfit looks chosen.

  • Straight jeans, rolled at the ankle
  • Wide trousers that skim the toe
  • A midi skirt and a thin sock
  • A trench, a fine knit, Oxblood

Thirty days, and a human on the other end.

Try them at home first, on a clean floor.

If the size or the color isn’t right, tell us inside thirty days: a person answers, usually the same day, always within one business day. Send them back unworn, and choose an exchange or store credit. No form, no ticket number, no explaining yourself twice.

Questions people ask before they buy

What size should I take?

Your usual US size. The label inside reads the EU size: a US 7 is marked 38. Whole sizes only. Between two sizes, take the size up.

Will the split rub between my toes?

Both edges of the split are bound and stitched. One honest note: if your second toe is longer than your big toe, a split toe can rub there.

Will it look like I’m trying too hard?

From a few steps away, it reads as a ballet flat. The split shows when you sit or cross your legs.

Do I need special socks?

No. The inside is lined, so you can wear them barefoot. If you like a sock, a thin split-toe sock sits best.

What is it made of?

Split cowhide leather over a caramel lining. Like any leather flat, it shapes to your foot as you wear it.

Black or Oxblood?

Black is the sharp one. Oxblood is a very dark wine brown: close to black indoors, red brown in daylight.

Can I return or exchange them?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, unworn with their tags and packaging: another size or color, or store credit. Anything that arrives damaged, defective or not what you ordered is on us.

I bought the suggested complete outfit and these were perfect with it. I probably wouldn’t have picked them myself, so I’m glad I trusted the recommendation.
