Description

A crew sock with a small ruffle at the top.

A fine rib runs down the leg and over the top of the foot, in a mostly cotton knit. At the top, the rib ends in a small wavy ruffle, the same color as the sock. There is no lace, no bow and no elastic band. Pull them up and the ruffle sits above your ankle, like the finished edge of a cuff. Push them down and the rib falls into soft folds. The toe is closed without a thick seam.

What you are getting

  • One pair of crew socks
  • A small wavy ruffle, tone on tone
  • A fine rib, mostly cotton
  • A loose top, no tight band
  • A smooth toe, no thick seam
  • Six colors: White, Cream, Stone, Taupe, Chocolate and Black
  • One size

Perfect for ballet flats and Mary Janes · loafers with cuffed jeans · sneakers with a skirt · open-toe slippers at home · a stocking stuffer with no size to guess.

Size & fit

One size. The rib is knit to stretch around the foot and up the leg.

Where they land. They’re crew socks. Pulled up, they rise above the ankle toward the calf and the ruffle sits on the leg. Pushed down, they gather into soft folds at the ankle and the ruffle sits just above the shoe. Exactly where depends on your foot and your leg.

Materials & care

Knit

A fine rib, mostly cotton (about three quarters cotton).

Top

A small ruffle in the same color as the sock.

Care

Wash cold and gently, inside out, with similar colors. Dry them flat so the ruffle keeps its wave. Keep White and Cream away from darks.

White ruffle socks worn with The New York Split-Toe Flat in Oxblood on the tiled landing of an apartment building

The part that shows, finished.

With flats and loafers, a little sock always shows between the shoe and the hem. On a plain sock, that strip can look like you forgot to change. Here it ends in a small ruffle, the same color as the knit, so it reads as a detail you chose, the way a ruffled collar finishes a blouse.

  • A small wavy ruffle, tone on tone
  • No lace, no bow, nothing loud
  • Pretty above ballet flats, Mary Janes and loafers

Pull them up. Or push them down.

There is no tight band at the top, so you decide the height. Pulled up, the rib runs up your leg and the ruffle sits above the ankle. Pushed down, the rib gathers into soft folds over the shoe.

Same pair, two moods: neat with a skirt, easy with jeans.

  • No tight elastic at the top
  • Two heights, one pair
  • A fine rib that folds softly

And under your slippers.

At home they do the same job. With an open-toe slipper like The New York Slipper, the ruffle sits just above the bands and your toes stay covered. White with Cream slippers, Chocolate with Coffee: match the pair to your slippers.

  • Mostly cotton, for slippers and shoes alike
  • Six colors to match what you already own
  • Easy under joggers or a knit lounge set

Try them with your own shoes.

Put them on with the flats or slippers you wear most, then look down. That’s the whole test.

If the color isn’t right, email us. A person answers within one business day, and you choose an exchange or store credit for the full amount. Send them back unworn, in their packaging.

Questions people ask before they buy

Are they thin?

Yes, on purpose. They’re a fine rib, like a dress sock, so they don’t crowd your flats or loafers. That also means they aren’t warm winter socks, and they aren’t made for snow boots or a long day of walking.

Is the ruffle too girly?

Not this one. The ruffle is small and the same color as the sock, so it reads as a finished edge, not a frill. With loafers, ballet flats or slippers, and in White, Stone, Taupe, Chocolate or Black, it looks grown up and put together.

Will one size fit me?

They’re one size, knit in a rib that stretches. Where they land depends on your foot and your leg: see Size & fit. If the fit isn’t what you hoped, exchange them or take store credit within 30 days of delivery, unworn and in their packaging.

Do they stay up?

There’s no tight band at the top, on purpose: the top is made to sit loose, not to squeeze. Pulled up, the rib keeps them up the leg. If they ease down over the day, they settle into the slouched look, which is the second way to wear them.

How do I keep the ruffle looking new?

Treat the ruffle like any fine knit edge. Wash cold and gently, inside out, ideally in a mesh laundry bag, and dry them flat. Skip the hot dryer: heat is hard on a ruffle.

Will the color look like the photos?

We matched each color to the real knit as closely as we could. White is a clean, neutral white. Cream is a warm ivory. Stone is a soft gray beige, Taupe a gray brown, Chocolate a warm dark brown, and Black is black. Screens vary a little.

What are they made of?

A fine rib, mostly cotton, about three quarters. The ruffle is the same color as the sock. No lace.

Which color should I start with?

White is the classic above black or burgundy flats and loafers. Cream is softer and warmer, lovely with cream knits and camel. Stone and Taupe are quiet neutrals that blend with jeans. Chocolate and Black go with dark trousers and dark shoes.

Buying them as a gift?

They’re one size, so there’s no size to guess. If the color isn’t hers, she can exchange it within 30 days of delivery, unworn and in their packaging.

Can I return or exchange them?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, unworn, unwashed and in their packaging: an exchange for another color, or store credit for the full amount. Return shipping is on you. Anything that arrives damaged or defective is on us, and we won’t ask you to send it back.
